If you’re in the market for an iMac, beware the 1 TB Fusion Drive because it includes a significantly smaller SSD than the one embedded in the 2 TB and 3 TB Fusion Drives.Īfter close to a year with a 2016 MacBook Pro with Touch Bar, Josh Centers doesn’t find Apple’s new alternative input device all that useful. Still, Mac OS X was desperately needed by the time it came. System 6 was probably the best operating system of the 80's. I'm told that on a Mac IIci with one of the rare 68040 accelerators, if you booted it in system 6 off a RAM disk (you could actually do that back then) it would boot to desktop in less than a second. It was totally written in assembly, and fit in something like 600 kb of disk space, and less RAM. everything "media player related" is most likely not fixed anymore). Just like Microsoft also still supports various releases, starting from Windows 7, 8.1 and 10, not counting the server variants and special support contracts which, yes, also still cover Windows XP until 2019 (although just for "special purpose" installations, e.g. He's running a fully patched El Capitan, and if you read the article carefully you'll have noticed that it just received the same fixes as Sierra. We just had WannaCry and you're seriously considering being unpatched? That hasn't affected me personally thankfully.

If I was you I'd do what the Mr.Walrus has done and update to the n-1 release if you don't feel like running the latest.Įdit : MoodyFan points out that I am wrong and PDFKit was sort-of needlessly rewritten to be full of bugs. El Capitan, and Yosemite were nearly as good and convinced me that since macOS changes were slowing down (crApple hates the mac!!) so I could now safely run the bleeding edge. Apple still provides security updates for Yosemite, so no worries. I would like to update, but I've heard from others the latest software mainly adds slowdowns and bloat.

I've yet to find a good reason to upgrade from Yosemite on my Macbook Air. It's been a while that Apple added any actual useful/interesting feature to the OS, and their constantly decreasing quality standards mean you get a much more stable experience overall from running the last revision of the previous major release (which right now means El Capitan 10.11.6). Is there really any point in running the latest macOS? (meaning Sierra 10.12.x)Įver since Apple started doing yearly releases I've always purposely kept myself one major version behind.
